Toney and Violet dated for about a year and then, like a true romantic, he proposed on Valentine’s Day—which was also Violet’s birthday. When Toney tells the story, he explains that he picked up a box of chocolate in the shape of a heart and replaced the center piece of chocolate with a diamond engagement ring. They married that summer.

This is the first post in a new resident spotlight series.

Meet Toney and Violet, a sweet married couple who we’ve had the pleasure of getting to know at Cedar Haven Healthcare Center.

How They Met

Every great love story has to start somewhere. Toney and Violet met through her aunt. Toney told us that he used to visit a racetrack for fun. One day at the track, he met Violet’s aunt, who told him she wanted him to meet her niece. Violet’s aunt then brought Violet to the racetrack to meet Toney and the couple started dating soon after.

A Valentine’s Day Surprise

Toney and Violet dated for about a year and then, like a true romantic, he proposed on Valentine’s Day—which was also Violet’s birthday. When Toney tells the story, he explains that he picked up a box of chocolate in the shape of a heart and replaced the center piece of chocolate with a diamond engagement ring. They married that summer.

Happily Ever After

This year, Toney eand Violet will be celebrating their 61st anniversary! They went on to have three children: David, Anita, and Rebecca. They currently have 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. Both Toney and his wife attended the Mary Gate of Heaven Catholic Church. Tony was a short-term resident at Cedar Haven and graduated from our Therapy program last week. He plans to continue to visit his wife at Cedar Haven as often as he can.

Tony and Violet have shared their “love story” with many of the staff members at Cedar Haven. We have all enjoyed getting to know the couple and wanted to share their sweet story with you! Please join us in congratulating Toney and Violet on their 61st anniversary!

We are very interested in the lives of our residents and the contributions they have made to our community. It is amazing what we learn about our residents and their lives when we get to know them at Cedar Haven! We would love to share their stories this year for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, and Veteran’s Day. If you are interested in honoring your family member with a Resident Spotlight in the Intercom and on our website, please send a paragraph and a photograph describing their great story or why they are a fantastic mother, father, or veteran to mtroain@cedarhaven.healthcare or drop it off for Marrissa Troain at the Front Desk.
